Doomsday

WATCH IT: Spiritualized "Little Girl" (Vincent Haycock, dir.)

A "Little Girl" on the run with nothing but her motorbike, the clothes on her back and some stolen money.  She falls in with a like-minded crew, but in the end she speeds down a road of her own choosing. The docu-feel is aided by shooting on-location in Germany with stunt rider Chesca Miles as the title charcter and other actual pro-riders/street-riders filling in the other roles. --> "Little Girl"

WATCH IT: Twin Shadow "Five Seconds" (Keith Musil, dir.)

A beautiful Leader Of The Pack intro leads into an equally beautiful, yet much more violent and totally messed-up video that's more in a Mad Max vein as Twin Shadow aka George Lewis Jr does battle with some masked marauders. If you find the tale intriguing, the video's end credit says its from Lewis' novel Night Of The Silver Sun, co-written by Eric Green, which is either a) coming soon, b) unpuplished, or c) unwritten. --> watch "Five Seconds"

Manchester Orchestra "Simple Math" = Best Vimeo Music Video 2012

The Vimeo Awards were last night, taking a unique slant over most over award galas: No fan voting after the shorlisting phase. No anonymous pool of voters. No Academy.

Each category had three special judges who decided the winner from a small pool of finalists. In the music video category, the judges were Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood and directors Chris Milk and Andy Bruntel.

Cool.

The winning video for 2012 is Manchester Orchestra "Simple Math," directed by Daniels.

WATCH IT: Friends "Mind Control" (Hiro Murai, dir.)

TV static, numbers numbers everywhere — all of it just a means to control the populace in this sci-fi tripfest from director Hiro Murai. Friends are on the scene to fight for our rights, but it seems like it may be too late for the kaleidoscopic effects to take place, including a cool effect in which someone's eyes to turn to mouths— which is a nice callback to his  Bloc Party clip. --> watch "Mind Control"
