MTV ALERT: TRL To Be RIP

MTV's weekday video countdown and celebrity show TRL — which launched Carson Daly and the Backstreet Boys, 'NSync and the rest of  the Old Wave Of American Teen Pop Music to stardom — will be leaving the air this November after a ten year run.

The big finale will be in November, right around the time that FNMTV is set to return for another season... And the door is being held ajar for a return. See this AP article on TRL with quotes from executive producer Dave Sirulnick for more details and hints.

MTV VMAs This Sunday + Tech Winners Announced

The annual MTV Video Music Awards are this Sunday, September 7 at 9pm. Full list of nominations after the jump..

Also, in a move akin in the pre-Academy Awards announcement of some of the less sexy technical categories — which are back after a Vegas Vacation —  MTV has announced the winners for these "professional categories" before show time.

TUNE IN: FNMTV with video debuts + VMA Nods for 8/15/08

This week's episode of FNMTV Premieres will feature video premieres from The Game, Solange Knowles and Gym Class Heroes, plus a performance by We The Kings.

Also, nominees for two more 2008 MTV Video Music Awards categories — Best Rock Video and Video of the Year — will be announced on the show. The categories and nominees unveiled last week are:

MTV: VMA Nominees for Best Male + Female

Audience interaction has been the prevailing theme on MTV this summer with the FNMTV Premieres program and other initiatives. That spills over to the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, in which viewers and fans will be able to pick the category nominees.

Two categories go live each week for voting at vma.mtv.com. The results are then announced each Friday on FNMTV.
