Obviously an Excessive Machine would be a bit much — the line is drawn at boob rockets — but Ariana Grande gets surprising campy and unsurpisingly sexy in a sci-fi romp that occupies a galaxy somwhere between Barbarella and Flash Gordon.
Paramore's Hayley Williams has played this role for hip-hop before — see Airplanes, B.O.B. — so it's not a surprise to see her ushering an EDM artist into the anthemic stratosphere. While both Zedd and Hayley are in the video, the real stars are the dancers who perform an elaborate choreographed routine in which they realize that a relationship is over.
A car crash of a relationship sends two lovers hurtling to opposite ends of the world, only to come back together at the end. But, the core of the video is director Jodeb's kaleidoscopic flurry of exploding objects, from Edison bulbs to stars.
