Chris Brown "Fine China" (Sylvain White + Chris Brown, dir.)

Chris Brown - Fine China

The force of MJ is strong on this one as Chris Brown and co-director Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard, The Losers).  deliver a big video that plays like an updated version of "Smooth Criminal." The set-up is basic — Brown is romancing the daughter of an Asian mob boss who doesn't approve of the budding union— but it's enough to get them into a lengthy dance/battle sequence that's the centerpiece o

OK Go + Saatchi & Saatchi Music Video Contest

OK Go made the viral video cool. Can they make the video contest cool?

Most music video professionals I know hate video contests, since it essentially asks you to work for free in hopes of fame and glory (and sometimes a cash prize). It's a good opportunity for someone trying to break in, but probably a bad deal for someone who trades in the business of ideas and executing them into a video.

The Ramona Flowers "Lust & Lies" (Blake Claridge, dir.)

The Ramona Flowers - Lust and Lies

A man awakes in the desert with a noose tied around his leg... [SG]

This was a great project to get commissioned, it was the direction that I have been aiming to go down and was an enjoyable and intense seven hour shoot in the not so sunny LA. With the idea, I was excited that the band just got it and liked the simplicity.

It was the first video that I had done where the band weren't on set which was strange but was great that they were so on board with the idea and I love being involved with our amazing actors, Jack and Drew.

The Flaming Lips f/ Bon Iver "Ashes In The Air" (NSFW)

The Flaming Lips & Bon Iver - Ashes In The Air

It starts with a astronaut, with a head that rapidly flashes between being a giant eye and a sly vagina, who emerges from a spaceship holding a baby with a grown man's face. It ends with a meat grinder. In between there's nudity, cannibalism, brains and all sorts of other genius insanity.

It's not safe for work; It's probably not safe for anywhere.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Sacrilege" - reversed version (unofficial)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sacrilege [Reverse]

Befuddled by the chronologically tricky Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Sacrilege" video, which starts at the end and ends at the beginning? Well, independent editor/composer David Adametz irreversed it, so your linear brain can more easily understand this post-modern immorality tale.

Best Music Videos of March 2013

30 music videos plucked from the over 140 "watch it" posts we ran this March. This month's Best-Of covers nearly all the bases, from the jump-cut madness of Passion Pit, to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' chronologically challenging morality tale, rotoscope grafitti for Joey Bada$$, a first person shooter from Russia that became a breakout hit, and even some poppier fare.

Some of these are NSFW — especially the FOALS clip at the end —  so careful where you click.
