What do Chris Cunningham, Jonathan Glazer, Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze, David LaChapelle, Mark Romanek and Tarsem all have in common? They've all been honored at early stages in their careersby wordwide ad creative conglomerate Saatchi & Saatchi in its annual New Directors Showcase.
The 2013 event was last night, featuring seveal directors who are likely already on your shortlist if you read videostatic.com. These include:
- Ian Cheng, director of Liars "Brats"
- Ilya Naishuller, director of Biting Elbows "Bad Motherfucker"
- Miles Jay, director of Young Empires "White Doves"
- Nabil, director of Antony And The Johnsons "Cut The World"
- Ohji Inoue, director of Keys N Krates "Treat Me Right"
- Ryan Hope, director of Alpines "Lights"
Plus some new music video names to add to the mix, like:
- Ben Liam Jones and Andy Hunter, directors of Cloudline "Follow Me Around" [short film]
- Daito Manabe, director of Nosaj Thing "Eclipse Blue"
- Lucio Arese, director of Yu Miyashita "Mimic"
- One Pixel Wide, directors of Masters In France "Flexin"
- Wong Ping, director of Under The Lion Crotch "No-One Remains Virgin"
There are also some directors recognized here for commercial and short film work, who we will likely (hopefully) see in the music video space as well:
