WATCH IT: Lushlife "Magnolia" (Lamar+Nik, dir.)

The 3D cardboard song title is a clear hint as to what to expect once the vocals start in this fun clip by directors Lamar+Nik for Lushlife.

Lamar+Nik, directors: Every word to 'Magnolia' (188) was handmade using cardboard (discarded from grocery stores), hot glue guns, and paint pens.  Random people at over 65 locations and a handful of friends were used as rappers throughout the video. The video was done completely practical (no CGI) and wound up costing a little under $80."

WATCH IT: Cemeteries "The Wilderness" (Michael Lawrence, dir.)

A moody exploration of an urban wilderness...

Michael Lawrence, director:  "When Kyle [Kyle J. Reigles, Cemeteries] and I first spoke about doing a film for The Wilderness, our common bond was an upbringing in the lost, abandoned, and beautiful post-industrial landscape of Buffalo, NY.  A palette of magenta and green with creeping moonlight came forth when listening to the track.  We built a small narrative of a savant exploring a factory - symbolizing the cellular memory of generations past that once resided in the lakefront paper and grain mills of our hometown.  The shafts of light and faint, distant memories are a view inside the cerebral cortex of two colliding versions of self."

WATCH IT: Mumford & Sons "Lover Of The Light" (Idris Elba & Dan Cadan, dir.)

OK, it's not as awesome as if Stringer Bell had starred in and co-directed a Mumford & Sons video, but it's certainly surprising to see actor Idris Elba take on both roles in this narrative clip for "Lover of The Light." And its effective, with Elba and co-director Dan Cadan unspooling a story that becomes more visible (so to speak) and resonant as it proceeds. --> watch "Lover Of The Light"

WATCH IT: Ludacris f/ Kelly Rowland "Representin" (Christopher Sims, dir.)

Ludacris isn't new to the NSFW-lyrical game, but it is a bit striking that Kelly Rowland is riding along, giving as good as she gets in the naughtiness department. Director Chris Sims breaks convention and places the two stars as a couple, pulling us into their world of home recording, pick-up hoops and furiously fast transportation. --> watch "Representin"

Director Matt Stawski on Owl City "When Can I See You Again"

It sure seems like soundtrack videos are making a comeback and Director Matt Stawski delivers a masterful integration of the film - Wreck-It Ralph - with the artist and video. The video doesn't just cut to existing film footage, instead the clip creates a practical, production designed world that looks like an 8-bit arcade game straight out of the world of the movie.

WATCH IT: Snoop Lion "La La La" (Eli Roth, dir.)

Everything about this is unexpected, from Snoop Dogg flipping species to Snoop Lion, going from rap to reggae, and horror movie master Eli Roth directing a somewhat family friendly clip for "La La La." Somewhat is a key word, since as much as things change, this homage to kiddie TV has all the weed and women as you've come to expect in Snoop's world. --> watch "La La La"

WATCH IT: Ciara "Got Me Good" (Joseph Kahn, dir.)

Joseph Kahn knows that shooting an artist in the desert makes them look elemental, like capitvating forces of nature. Ciara is raw, uncut starpower (especially when she's inviting us to the gun show) and Kahn showcases her for maximum effect with the camera moving in unique ways that make us feel intoxicated by her dance moves. Plus, adorable dancing kids!!! --> watch "Got Me Good"
