David Bowie - The Stars (Are Out Tonight)

The siren song of rock 'n' roll comes calling again for David Bowie, tempting him from his "nice life" with his lovely wife into something filled with more madness and more sex. Can he resist? Well, we already know the answer to that, but director Floria Sigismondi brings the mixed emotions to the surface in this slightly NSFW video starring Bowie alongside Tilda Swinton as his wife.

WATCH IT: Sigur Ros "Leaning Towards Solace" (Floria Sigismondi, dir.)

In the end you'll be greeted by angels and they'll be in the form of the ones you love. And you'll be reborn.

That's the definition of Solace in this gorgous short film by Floria Sigismondi, with actor John Hawkes as a man mourning the loss of his daughter, played by Elle Fanning. It's a gorgous piece of filmmaking with a painfully expressive performance by Hawkes, and a very fitting end (and/or rebirth) to the Valtari mystery film series. --> watch "Leaning Toward Solace"

WATCH IT: will.i.am f/ Britney Spears "Scream & Shout" (Ben Mor, dir.)

If partying with will.i.am and Britney is fun, then celebrating with all the rythmically multiplied versions of them in this clip is 10x the excitement. Director Ben Mor crafts a syncopated and stylized universe that features a figure-skating inspired wardrobe  and a possible world-record for luxury product shots. There is a lot of eye candy, but nothing matches will's devastating Demolition Man cut. Simon says, "Dance." ---> watch "Scream & Shout"

WATCH IT: The Rolling Stones "Doom And Gloom" (Jonas Akerlund, dir.)

Surrounded by gluttony, greed, sex and all the other supposed deadly sins have no effect on The Rolling Stones, who plow straight ahead with their best single in years (and not just because it's their only single in years). While the band are as undeterred as always on the task at hand, director Jonas Akerlund  sets actress Noomi Rapace on a chaotic (and sometime topless) journey that hurtles toward madness and runs the gamut from a Zombie attack to fronting The Stones for a few quick shots. --> watch "Doom And Gloom"

WATCH IT: Sigur Ros "Valtari" (Christian Larson, dir.)

Can you stand 10 minutes of slow seduction expressed through a painstakingly gorgous modern dance between two lovers in what looks like the remnants of a factory destroyed by the apocalypse? What if I told you they get naked? And, that my friends, is how you lure em in for what's essentially a tribute to telling a story through the art of dance. --> watch "Valtari"

WATCH IT: Ellie Goulding "Anything Could Happen" (Floria Sigismondi, dir.)

Everything seems to float just slightly un-tethered from the ground and earthly concerns in this new Floria Sigismondi clip for Ellie Goulding. The waves cascade skyward while shards of mirror and reflective bubbles seems to be caught up in the fizzing, aerial energy of the song. The artist looks a bit like Robyn With The Dragon Tattoo — the kind of fiercely other-worldly beauty that shows up in a lot of Floria's fashion and beauty advertising work. The evocative ending twist is almost inevitable, but still affecting and (of course) gorgeous. --> watch "Anything Could Happen"

WATCH IT: John Mayer "Queen Of California" (Sam Jones, dir.)

John Mayer keeps trudging (Eastbound, it should be noted) through all sorts of terrain set pieces ‚blustery cities, lush forests, a wintery field and lots more, only stopping to jam with his band. Perhaps those brief musical moments are enough to get him through, since he heads back to the beginning for another take when the video ends. --> watch "Queen Of California"
